Aprovechando los días libres de Navidad, he pasado un día en una de las pocas ciudades Patrimonio de la Humanidad que aún me quedan por visitar en España. El tiempo no acompañó demasiado, pues era raro el momento en el que no tenía que tener la cámara resguardada en el abrigo para que no se mojara, a cambio disfrutamos de un ambiente realmente mágico y sereno en la Ciudad Encantada, una de esas maravillas de la naturaleza que uno no puede dejar de ir a ver en algún momento de su vida.
Taking the advantage of this Christmas holidays, I spent one day in one of the World Heritage cities in Spain that I haven't visited yet. The weather wasn't the best but winter is winter. I had to have the camera covered inside my coat to avoid the rain. In return we enjoyed a magical foggy ambience that I really love for black and white photography. It was specially beauty in Ciudad Encantada, 30 km from Cuenca. A natural place full of stones in impossible shapes. A masterwork of nature.
Perderse por la ciudad antigua es la mejor manera de descubrir estas ciudades de trazado medieval. Pronto se llega a la catedral, en la plaza mayor, un edificio que ha tenido un enorme recorrido a lo largo de los siglos, desde el siglo XII, hasta el XX. Hasta llegar a ella caminamos por calles con casas de fachada colorida, algo muy raro en las ciudades medievales castellanas. Probablemente una influencia del nuevo mundo.
Rodeando la ciudad se pueden obtener algunas de las mejores vistas: las casas colgantes, y las que se asoman al Júcar como pequeños rascacielos, el famoso puente de San Pablo de 1903
Walking around the old city is best way to discover its typical architecture. The cathedral in the image #1 is located in Plaza mayor, so you can easily get a complete view of the front part. This building suffered many alterations during its long construction from the 12th to the 20th century.
In order to reach there, you'll have to walk through narrow streets which will show colourful aspect. This isn't something common in center Spain old historic cities. I guess it can easily be a clear influence from the new world cities, more cheerful and lively in the use of colour.
Surrounding the city you can get maybe the nicest views. Holding houses, some of them next to the river, and the San Pablo's bridge, a touch of modernism surrounded by nature and the renaissance and baroque architecture.
Amaneció una mañana con algo de niebla en la ciudad, pero una vez en la sierra, y cuanto más nos acercábamos al paraje de la Ciudad Encantada, esta se hizo tan densa que a penas se podía ver a 10 metros mientras avanzábamos por la carretera. No era un hermoso día para hacer turismo por el monte, pero a cambio disfrutamos de una visita muy tranquila y en ambiente casi fantasmagórico que nos dejó un recuerdo muy especial de esta maravilla de la naturaleza a la que sin duda volveremos a visitar.
It was a very foggy day in the city, so even more in the mountain. The more we got near the place the thicker the foggy was. It was so dense that while driving we even couldn't see 10 metres ahead. It wasn't the perfect day to walk in the mountain but in return, we enjoyed a very calm walking in an almost phantasmagorical atmosphere which made the experience something very special.
