Busselton

Busselton

23 April 2022

Just a couple of days left in Australia, so today was a family day, time spent with Chambrie, Isla and Jack before our return home. We drove up to Busselton and took a walk along the pier. The Busselton Jetty is the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere, measuring 1,841m. A small gauge train runs from the beach to the end of the pier, but we enjoyed the stroll. There were a few birds to be seen, a close fly by Australian darter was smart, about 12 Little Pied Cormorant, 20 Silver Gull and a Crested Tern.

After lunch we found a large gathering of about 30 Western Corella in the large trees by the jetty cafes.  On the beach were 40 Crested Tern, 40 Silver Gull and an Australian Pied Oystercatcher. A stop at a small rocky outcrop by the sea produced 4 Southern Emu Wren.

In the evening I walked from Gracetown to Ellen Brook and back. Lots of White-browed Scrub Wren, several Silvereye, a Red-eared Firetail and 3 stunning Rock Parrots that gave exceptional views (though I hadn't carried my camera). An adult Pacific Gull flew along the shore.
