Life in Churu

Hi ! I am Sharad Raj Utsav.I left a well paying job in an education company located in Delhi in order to join Gandhi Fellowship Program in Churu,Rajasthan, which is anything but financially rewarding.

For those of you who haven't heard of Churu ,it is also known as the "Gateway To Thar". It holds the distinction of being one of the hottest places in India where the day temperature goes as high as 53 degree Celsius in Summer months. This is not all...Winters are harsher with sub zero degree temperatures being a constant phenomenon

And for those of you who haven't heard of Gandhi Fellowship Program you can refer the link below

Why I left my job and joined the fellowship which pays me roughly twenty percent of what I used to get in my job?

There are two reasons for this:-

Firstly,I grew up in Patna and Delhi, with most of my childhood time spent in Patna. Also since I was eleven or twelve I have been reading biographies of great personalities; of people who were born in log cabins but died in palaces; of people who tried to make the world a better place to live in;of people who risked everything in order to find out the purpose of their lives.I too wanted to be in the league of such people...Albert Einstein,Steve Jobs,Thomas Edison,Swamy Vivekanananda and the like. But like 99.99 % people on this planet I had no clue on how to begin? How to be great? How to create value? How to live in the hearts of people even after I die? It was then that I remembered a "doha" in hindi "Leek leek Gaadi Chale Leeke Chale Kapoot,Leek Chod teeno Chale-Shayar Singh Sapoot" which roughly translates to "Great men carve out their own paths"So,when I got a chance to explore the various possibilities by staying in rural desert atmosphere along with an opportunity to fine tune my skills I decided to take the plunge.Hence,Gandhi Fellowship.

Secondly,I am a nationalist by heart.I had the desire of serving the nation in every form that I could since my childhood.Unfortunately,I could not join the Army, which according to me,is one of the better ways of doing good for the country. So,these two years of devoted service for improving the education system of government schools along with the means of livelihood of villages is my contribution to this great nation.
